Daily Feeds Recaps

Day 50 - Wednesday - August 25, 2021

The backyard was finally closed, indicating tomorrow's HOH comp probably won't be one with major apparatus, especially not weight-bearing apparatus. The day started like most other locked-in days with Derek F cleaning the kitchen, nominees planning their campaigns for the day, Kyland filibustering (to Derek X this time), and everyone else rolling through the kitchen and bathroom in stages. It's a foregone conclusion as of this morning that Derek X will join Britini in jury, but there are a few super-slim possibilities that could change that. One, last night DX pitched to DF that he'll probably be the only other person to have enough Bucks to play Coin of Destiny, which means DF could do what he wanted with it and be off the hook as far as public record and responsibility. And two, Kyland was still telling DX this morning that he'd throw him a sympathy vote if "safe" to do so, and then others could potentially flip to make it 4-3 for DX to stay. And three, Xavier will begin his Strategy Shutdown 24 hours of solitary this afternoon, so he won't have control over any potential last minute flips. Again, these are all super-slim possibilities so don't put money on any of them changing anything.

Afternoon was one-on-one campaign pitches by Claire and Derek X, in which virtually all of their points were pointless due to the Cookout's juggling agendas: if this vote flips, it won't be because of anything DX or Claire said. They were shown NFT-themed video clips of themselves around 5.30pm, presumably for tomorrow's HOH comp. Xavier was sent to solitary a little before 6pm, so he wasn't able to study those clues with anyone. He was in Have-not room, with apples and various other light snacks, and a camp toilet. He made a big production/skit of giving us a tour of his room and its amenities, as if the selfie camera was out. Feeds were strobing between that and adoptable anipals when he moved in, resulting in a happy accident of kitty commentary about his new litter box.

They got a booze delivery but instead of having house meetings Xavier couldn't break up, or flipping votes, or getting loud and silly, they studied the video clues they'd been given. Probably smart for them - not so fun for us. SarahB pitched a Final Three to Derek F on behalf of herself and Kyland, and he squealed "yaayyyy!" and happily accepted. Azah made chili, and realized she'd done farewells and a full Diary session with a wonky eyelash. And she told us she was annoyed with Derek X because she showed him her Froot Loop study system and asked him to keep it quiet, then suddenly everyone had Froot Loops out. Alyssa said she didn't want to talk about Christian in Diary anymore.

Day 49 - Tuesday - August 24, 2021

Tiffany told us it'd be great if Derek X could somehow stay, saying she wants him there and "wouldn't you guys want to keep seeing him?" She said she'll let everyone "shoot off their ammo" and then she'll come in behind with hers. That could mean Wednesday afternoon/evening when Xavier goes into solitary. But Xavier probably anticipated that: he told Derek F that Tiffany knows keeping Derek X would be bad for Cookout but good for her, and that's why she hasn't brought it up with Kyland. Derek F said if he has next week's power (which he likely will), he'd be tempted to put up Tiffany with Claire or SarahB. (As of now, if Derek X goes, the only other person who'd be able to get Coin of Destiny power is Hannah, and only if she gets 100 BB Bucks from the next vote.)

In other news, Claire led yoga class, Azah continued being terrorized by flying beetles or June bugs, the ants made it into the backyard fridge, and a group discussion/game about Wonders of the World mixed up ancient, modern, natural, along with non-wonders: like the ants, that's also something that happens every year.

The three Cookout guys met with Tiffany, and Xavier said he'd like the vote to be settled before he goes into solitary tomorrow. Kyland said if Tiffany has a case to be made for keeping Derek X, "let's discuss it." They pretended to discuss it anyway, but Tiffany said she knows it's a done deal and she doesn't want to put herself in a position where they view her as troublemaker, flipper, emotional/personal player, and "it's a dead situation to me." She went on to say "I don't have a leg to stand on, I've done nothing, you guys are the ones who will take all of the shots that need to be made so I don't have anything to say." Kyland and Derek F wandered off and Tiffany told Xavier she knew the guys were saying the Cookout girls weren't pulling their weight, and she also said she's unsure about Claire, that she'd been distant with her lately. And she said pretty soon they'll be wondering why SarahB is still there, and if she still is when they're down to five, four, three left, "I'm gonna be mad at y'all and we ain't gonna be friends after this game."

Tiffany then met with us again, saying she'd promised Kyland and Xavier she wouldn't say anything to them about keeping Derek X, but she didn't promise she wouldn't help him build his campaign. She said she was ready to "sprinkle a little seasoning in the Cookout" and it's Big Brother, she came here to play the game, not just lay around sunbathing and letting others play it for her. She added "just don't let my behind end up sitting in jury" but said if that happens, at least she'll know she went out fighting. Kyland told Azah it was his responsibility to manage this HOH, so he felt the vote should go his way, and Azah said that was fine. Azah commiserated with and comforted Derek X, who said he feels he's let down viewers who voted for him to get BB Bucks. Xavier told Alyssa that Christian's eviction pretty much killed the "weapon and a shield" argument to keep comp threats around. Hannah continued to play the middle between the Cookout guys and girls. Claire and Derek X each had a campaign session with Xavier.

Vote talks raged on. They came together for dinner and then separated to their whispery corners again. I can't follow it all and I don't try to. Azah told Hannah that Xavier had agreed to a 5-2 vote, but Hannah said she'd prefer 4-3, and if someone flips "it tells us what we need to know." But then she agreed that 5-2 would be fine and if someone flips and it's 4-3, the outcome (Derek X going) would be unchanged. Claire once again asked Derek X if there's a big alliance they aren't aware of and he said "if I was them, I'd make it a real thing," and he said they could go all the way "if they don't turn on each other." They talked some life stuff: he asked her about coming out, and she said most of her friends and family knew she's bi but some would find out from the show. And she told him she started the college game Survivor Michigan. And they realized while chatting in the hammock this would be their last night in the yard together.

Frequent feeds blocks were once again the order of the day.

Day 48 - Monday - August 23, 2021

Most of them were up til all hours again, and BB let them sleep til 10am. Kyland greeted the doomed Derek X with a 90-second silent hug/lean (yes, I timed it). Derek X then made a final pitch to SarahB, telling her nobody would put him up against her, and offering deals and a say in his Coin of Destiny next week. SarahB was mostly silent during and between his spiels but eventually asked if he thought Claire and Tiffany would come after him. He said he didn't know where he falls on that totem pole. Afterwards she ran the roster for who might come for her if he stays. She said she believed that Derek X wouldn't, but also said she didn't believe he wouldn't use Coin of Destiny to put her up, and she said not putting him up today would leave questions about what others would do later. Kyland arrived to erase whatever momentary doubts she was having, and she said "push come to shove, I might lie to Tiff and Claire and say [DX] did throw them under the bus," adding that he wouldn't be there to defend himself.

Xavier used his veto on himself obviously, and SarahB nominated Derek X in his place. Feeds came back to Claire and Derek X having a block party in the reef room, dejected but also joking. Derek X said he might as well eat now but Claire told him no, then he'd get a penalty vote. Xavier and Alyssa wasted no time heading up to HOH to cozy up with Kyland and SarahB, and agreeing to work together, christening themselves The Monarchy.

From there it was a combo of gametalks, preliminary campaigning, chit-chat, and sunning, like many afternoons when they have the yard. The stakes aren't any higher but every week it seems like they are. The Cookout guys held a lengthy meeting about next week's power, which Derek F apparently will have enough BB Bucks to play, Xavier's third nominee timing, and how and when to take out everyone else including the Cookout girls. Since those things rarely go to plan, I tend to wait for the actual events to unfold rather than keep track of multiple what-if scenarios. This cast talks an awful lot of what-if scenarios. By the way, Hannah may also have enough Bucks to play for Coin of Destiny coup d'etat if she gets BB$100 this week. She told some of them she spent BB$125 to play Chopping Block Roulette and she told others the truth, that she didn't.

Dinner was spaghetti by Azah, with help and sides from Claire and SarahB. Derek X and Claire poured out into the yard like little kids afterwards, skittering around like little kids, laughing, and hollering "we're free! Britini, we're coming!" Then they settled into the hammock to commiserate about their plight, and discuss their options, and who might win the game and AFP, and to settle into their easy friendship. Claire again asked if he thought the Cookout six were all together, and had decided to take out Derek X. He said that was probably true, "but it's not like a lasting.." to which Claire said "no, it's not like they have a name." So they keep dancing around the elephant in the room but there probably isn't a lot they can do about it. Claire also said she thought SarahB was mentioning her girlfriend Shelly more, and asked if DX had noticed that? He said "I don't listen to what she says anymore." And she confessed that she actually lives in Manhattan's Upper East Side, not Queens, and that she doesn't actually do QA. She didn't specify AI but his reaction made it clear he understood she did something bigger, and she said "for a big tech company."

Derek X pitched an idea to Tiffany that she, Azah, Hannah lie to Kyland to let him think they were voting DX out, so Kyland would then give him a sympathy vote as offered, if the vote wasn't going to be close. That likely won't happen, but Derek X is trying. He also told Tiffany about Alyssa and Xavier meeting in HOH with Kyland and SarahB after the veto meeting, and that he'd seen Kyland, Derek F, Xavier breaking up from their Have-not meeting earlier. Those things seemed to get Tiffany's attention. Azah told Xavier, who'd been a little grouchy all evening, that Hannah and Claire were joking around that he was lying about being a bartender because he mentioned playing basketball after work. Derek F gagged when Hannah cracked her back, saying he'd never heard anything like that before. Feedmasters cut off Azah humming the BB theme song so they could play the BB theme song for us. Tiffany told Azah the Cookout guys want her (Tiffany) out first, and they agreed to work with Hannah to take them on. And The Big Blue Couch was revived, with an extended Derek F interview, followed by Mafia.

Ratings - Kyland Sucked Up All the Oxygen edition

Ratings are based on Kyland

Noms count: original/renom / HR: High Roller result

I am often confused by the way they spin the feeds stories into show edits, but Wednesday's OTEV show had a few glaring omissions that made no sense at all. One, they neglected to mention or even hint that the target had shifted from Claire to Britini because it was guessed (correctly) that Britini had gotten 100 BB Bucks, and she banked them, while Claire earned 50 and spent them. And two, they made it appear that The Deal between Britini and Kyland was an actual, legit deal when it was not. I have no doubt Britini believed it was legit (thanks to Kyland's convoluted word salads), so her shock and outrage at going on the block were perfectly understandable. However, again, Kyland never agreed on the safety deal she pitched to him, even though the Wednesday show implied he had.

Three, why haven't they stressed Cookout's underlying mission of finally having Black finalists in civilian BB USA? Da'Vonne stated it so eloquently last year, but this season it's coming across to casuals as 'just another big alliance' steamrolling their way to the end. (I'm not acknowledging the racist 'fans' complaints, but they sure do have a lot.) Every Cookout member has said at various times on feeds just how much the bigger picture means. Unless I missed it, that part seems to have been overlooked in the edits, along with their individual challenges within the game because they are putting that goal first. Maybe these things will be cleared up on Thursday's show.

Update: None of these things were cleared up on Thursday's show.

1st juror - 6th evicted - Day 44

She went on the block four times, and she ranted, cried, and was a pretty bad sport about it. She only played the game around noms and voting times, so she didn't understand she kept going OTB because she didn't bother to find out what was going on, or to create allies beyond her Jokers team/roomies. The fact she was up against Cookout didn't help her any, but she could have done a lot more than she did, and she blamed her exit on a broken deal that was never struck. She rapped for Julie, and won a hard-fought veto, and broke in on Alyssa/Christian sexytime in HOH. She seemed to be playing a character much of the time, and she contributed a lot to their many skits and songs.

Won: Week 1 Wildcard + safety; Week 3 safety
HOH 1 - Veto 2 - Noms 0/1 - HN 2
TEAM KINGS Captain

5th evicted - Day 37

It was tricky to tell him apart from Travis at first, which wasn't helped by Christian changing his hair once or twice a day, and he often sounded like Victor Arroyo when he spoke. But that passed and soon it was easy to tell Christian was the loud one who was super-glued to Alyssa most of the time. He was sometimes fun and seems like a good guy, but he made no secret of his physical abilities, including doing six backflip/burpie combos in a row one day, just because he could. Those abilities were largely what got him the boot, since he also proved he could put them into action, even when he didn't need to.

Won: Nothing
HOH 0 - Veto 0 - Noms 1/0 - HN 1
TEAM ACES Captain

4th evicted - Day 30

Apparently she spent a few hours on Twitter and she selected one of my tweets to complain about being villainized, slut shamed, and hated. My tweet was factual, with a touch of snark, but none of that stuff. Maybe she forgot what she signed up for, and I'm sure she's having a tough re-entry, but after having hate for her flung into my mentions every day (as all updaters get, for each of them) to then get called out publicly for what I didn't do, I'll just go with Mariah's 'I don't know her.'

Won: Nothing
HOH 0 - Veto 0 - Noms 1/0 - HN 1

3rd evicted - Day 23

At cast reveal I thought international flight attendant would mean great people skills, but no. He came in boasting of charm but it didn't last long. His talk about girls and dating, and his behavior towards several women in there, were problematic and bound to get worse if he'd stayed. He was happy to be Frenchie's lieutenant for the chaotic first week but then Brent turned on him and practically denied ever being with him. He had zero self-awareness about all this and the edits skewered him as they did Frenchie, proving once again if you do clownery, you'll get the clown music.

Won: Nothing
HOH 1 - Veto 0 - Noms 1/0 - HN 0
TEAM JOKERS Captain

2nd evicted - Day 16

Cast reveal brought controversy plus a major Cody/Derrick mixup, and the feeds opened to him announcing he wouldn't put up a woman or minority, but then he put up Alyssa and Kyland, and it was downhill from there. He did everything a feedster should know not to do: shouting in Diary, talking in cliches, Bomb Squadding, pandering, power-tripping, mistaking BB history items, grandstanding, begging for a viewer save, and threatening to quit. Still, all that gave us a wild ride and super-chaotic first week of feeds that we'd never be able to piece together if we hadn't seen it unfold.

Won: Nothing
HOH 0 - Veto 0 - Noms 0/1 - HN 0
TEAM QUEENS

1st evicted - Day 9

I barely know who he was. He dressed in drag (and looked okay doing so), he gave Kyland a birthday lap dance, took his shirt off for his nominee speech, and complained to Julie that white guys with abs are targets. And he didn't do much to prevent his eviction. That's all I got. Aloha.

Won: Early ticket home

Replaced by Claire pre-season, she tested positive for COVID.
