Day 65 - Friday 8/21

Two hats

They got the middle-size table for eight right on schedule, a season milestone that made them dance and squeal, and they were told there'd be no Have-nots this week

An update to last night's nomination roulette talks, Julia reported to Vanessa much of what was going on and that a big bull's eye had been placed on Vanessa's back.. that led to several more rounds today, with Austin still wanting Vanessa out but for the chance she'll come back next week, Vanessa saying she'd be happy to go up as a pawn "but not this week," and Steve saying he'd be happy to go up as a pawn "but not against Johnny Mac"

I find it really interesting that the twins seem to be split as far as their loyalties to Vanessa and Johnny, and it adds a very interesting dynamic to a very interesting season.. usually by this point, everything is predictable and it's just a waiting game as it plays out, but not this time

The final round that we saw before noms was Austin and Vanessa squaring off over his top hat and her fedora.. he asked her openly if she'd known about James throwing that spelling BOB comp and she admitted she had, but had been "sworn to secrecy" and that she'd thought Austin had lied to her at that time.. he also asked if she'd reported the eight-person deal to Shelli and Clay and she said she'd only told Steve about it, and she offered to swear on her mother and a Bible

Austin ended up nominating Steve and Johnny.. Vanessa gave Austin a big hug afterward with "thank you" and Steve kept telling everyone he never thought he'd last this long.. later Steve and Austin had a long talk about past seasons, plus Steve basically telling Austin he'd been hoodwinked by Vanessa.. they all had family dinner together at their new table, they played Pot Ball and chocolate pelting, and turned in early to await Zingbot tomorrow

Day 64 - Thursday 8/20

But first

Waiting on eviction, they got busy during HOH lockdown with pileups and roots touch-ups.. later, James cut Steve's hair and Becky took to her bed, with the others wondering how she'll get out to Julie's boudoir and packing some of her things for her.. out here, the angry mob continued to sharpen the pitchforks and fire up the torches

Ready, Set, Wut

Becky walked the plank as expected, on a unanimous vote and under her own power.. she did a superb exit interview with Julie, owning her mistakes, accepting kudos for telling Vanessa "no deals!" and vowing to bring it to the revival comp, which will take place next week

The HOH comp was a great concept, an anxiety-laden variation on the old hold the button comps.. they had to crouch in running blocks with two hands and one foot kept on buttons, while watching monitors count down READY, SET, and then cycle through various words until GO popped up, then dash down their lanes to hit another button.. Meg was out on the first of six heats before Julie said good night

It could have been a very fun comp to watch, between the difficult body positions while watching their monitors, and James razzing the others by saying false "go" here and there, but despite being advertised as being on the feeds, we just got a few quick glances between Jeffish loops.. Julia was out second, then Vanessa apparently let go of one of her buttons, then Johnny was out, and then Steve.. the final lap was only an hour after they started, and Austin won by a hair.. the angry mob lit their torches

Johnny told Steve that he hadn't run particularly fast because he thought everyone was going to throw it to him, but he told Austin that he'd pulled something in one of the first heats and wasn't able to run fast enough later.. Vanessa started up her loops right away to Austin, divulging "new information" she'd been sitting on, and etc etc

Austin's letter was from his mom and dad, full of siblings news and Halloween plans.. he got beef and chicken, music by Rise Against, a clown nose, and pics of his buddies and his dogs aka "bobokitties"

After the usual roundabout loops, Austin decided to put up Johnny and Vanessa after a long talk with Steve where still more Vanessa info was shared, and Vanessa had told them earlier she would offer to go up as a pawn if she had to.. they decided she had to - she didn't like that at all and tried to backslide, but too late.. they'll all tell her she's safe, when she very likely won't be.. if Vanessa should win the veto, James or Meg would probably go up - that's the plan, anyway.. damage control and related hilarity ensued all over the habitat - it's going to be another long but hopefully fun week

LINES OF THE DAY

Friday
Steve: [Vanessa] sat right here being comfortable saying she was okay with being the pawn
Austin: That has drastically changed

Vanessa:
Steve is a shitty alliance member!
I'm willing to be a pawn but this would be not the spot for it
This [her going up] would be very Russian roulette-y - with your game too! Not just mine

Steve to self, after noms: I gotta say Vanessa, you're good

Steve to Austin: Sounds like you don't have any desire to get rid of Vanessa.. she did a brilliant job on you

Liz to Julia: Basically certain people, the fairies, have hinted that Steve and Johnny Mac are working together

Steve about scare pranks: Do you do this at home?
James: Oh yeah, I do it worse at home - my friends are drunk

Thursday
Meg: We gotta be on top of our cleaning game - Becky's gone

Meg: As soon as I walked out there, I was back in my biggest nightmare: high school gymn class

Vanessa: Can I have three minutes with you alone?
Austin: No more.. can we do it tomorrow morning?

Won: $10,000; Never Not pass; Outback dinner (guest)
She came in with that incredible train/tram backstory and a good attitude about it, and she called herself 'Basic Becky' which fit well when she talked about recipes, dogs, and her daily tasks and procedures at work. But she proved to be a comp beast and she lived up to her billing as Black Friday Boss when she openly targeted Vanessa. Unfortunately for her, everyone turned tail on that plan and Becky was demoted to the after-Christmas returns desk. She should have gone on a dating show but she gave us some fun with Becky Updates - even Olive Garden got in on that! She can laugh at herself and those ones are always appreciated.

Won: 1 week 6 days knight; 24 hours polishing by Vanessa
She came in as a stuntcast cross-promo opp with Jeff and she was easily the better of that duo, even if she was barely seen for weeks. She had a better grasp of this show and game than he did, and she talked some big talk but didn't get a chance for us to see if she'd put it in action or not. She did her costume week with a good attitude, and she was a good-natured participant in most of their non-game activities. She gave us some behind-the-scenes 'Amazing Race' info which was fun and different. Like Victoria last year, she doesn't need all that fake hair but at least hers stayed in pretty good shape most of the time.

Won: 2,400 battles
She's the type who had Star of the Season potential but she didn't quite make the cut. She was volatile, emotional, controlling, and prone to hissy fits, and she took most things personally. But she was also an unexpected comp beast, especially on the endurance wall, and she wasn't afraid to make 'big moves' even if Vanessa had a heavy hand in most of them. She did her 2,400 battles largely (and surprisingly) without complaint, and she gained some hard-earned respect with that. Her thing with Clay was odd and uncomfortable to watch, and she easily won Death Race 2015 with her curious and unflattering taped-in extensions.

Won: Ireland trip; Outback dinner (guest)
He started badly, calling himself a 'superfan' after being recruited at a basketball game and marathoning a few seasons. He said BB is about making new friends and memories, and he had a problem with lies and backstabs except when he was doing it. He spent most of his time stapled to Shelli and they got a lot of mother/son jokes, but I saw them more as creepy Lannisters, especially when she went on about how like her brother he is. He provided loads of unintentional comedy, weird mouth things and mumbling translations, he peed in HOH shower, and he got out just in time.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
Another superfan who found out it's easier to play BB from home, he fell into Vanessa's disastrous Renom Roulette wheel and went out earlier than many hoped. He got mouthy about many of them and popped some good funnies, but he laid around most of the time until it was too late. He gave us some of the best reaction faces of all time, especially the night they played squicky truth or dare - he even had a dedicated cam for much of it. He mentioned this site often, usually saying it's 'hard to navigate' so he'll probably never see this.

Won: Nothing
She was erratic and unpredictable, and the random ways she kept them stirred up made for some of the best feeds in ages. And as a bonus, she featured in all the fights, many because the others didn't believe her telling truths. They did buy most of the fibs, and without 'empirical evidence,' but they fell for her wacky gameplay more than twice. She marooned herself in a bed and a dental chair, with some laughs in between, and she got the 2nd ever penalty vote. I enjoyed watching her, and will miss her.

Won: Nothing
I haven't given many empty wheels before their time, and I don't think any of those got them as early as he did. But we've never had such a misogynistic, inappropriate, and unfunny pig before. CBS let him get away clean and that's what it is - I'm just glad to see the back of him.

Won: Power to nullify 3 votes
She wasn't afraid to confront people nor to keep fighting to stay, which was good for us, but didn't help her much. She figured out the twins early but didn't leverage that to her advantage soon or well enough. Her 'game on' fight with Audrey and pantry rant to us were memorable, especially her catch-phrase 'get your life!' She was smart, funny, and volatile. She didn't let us take full advantage of #DaVonneHasADaughter, a hashtag that was too good to be true.

Won: Nothing
He was like a parody of all the former surf boys we've had, with all the worst qualities of asshat hamsters past rolled into one. He verbally beat up on Steve a few times but the primetime version earned him viewer loathing, even if his actoring was lousy. He ranted, streaked, flipped us off, and mostly talked about himself, but he promised to save us all someday through music.

They erroneously said last year that BB16 would have 'the most houseguests ever' but this year they really did, with 17 total after the twins split into separate entities. Now my symmetry for this section is out of whack and I don't know what to put here.

Big Brother 17 FAQ
June 18 was Day 1 move-in. June 24 was CBS premiere, Day 7. Finale will be September 23, Day 98

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP (formerly TVGN). It airs Monday, Tuesday 11pm-2am; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight-2am; Thursday 1am-3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) will play BB air shows and other CBS shows, but not feeds. Use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

Liz and Julia had to survive five evictions in order to play separately as individuals, which they did, with Julia officially entering the game on Day 43. They switched places every few days. They had a limited time in Diary to change clothes, adjust their appearance, and exchange info. The non-playing twin was sequestered in a 'house,' possibly the jury house.

BB17 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Recruits or those with established pre-season fan bases might get more.

The habitat has 80 HD cameras (up four) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman.
