Day 98 - Tuesday, September 20

A unicorn, a freakazoid, and a big sister

It sounds like a "walked into a bar" joke, and I guess it kind of is.. they continued to wait and rattle around on their last day before their lives change in large and small ways, passing the time in their usual ways: eating, packing, napping, cleaning, rehashing, fighting ants, rehearshing speeches, and divvying up souvenirs.. James kept more or less to himself and napped more than usual, having gone into pre-eviction cocoon mode since realizing he's the odd man out, while Paul and Nicole hung out together like besties much of the time

Nicole reassessed her thoughts of how jurors will vote and she waffled back to reconsidering taking James to finals, if it's up to her.. James perked up a bit but (strangely) still hadn't made a pitch to either of them to take him.. Nicole and Paul noticed he'd perked up though, and they had another lengthy go-round about what to do, with Nicole letting Paul know she was feeling doubtful and maybe James perked up because Paul's taking him.. Paul went to work on Nicole once again, and each of them openly said they're taking the other - we'll see

There was a lot of awkward throughout the evening, especially when all three were in the same room.. Nicole was still saying to herself "I don't know the right choice" at 11pm.. an hour or so later, James joined Paul and Nicole who were rehashing the season (again), and Nicole grilled James pretty hard about several of his actions and motives over these many weeks

Day 97 - Monday, September 19

Heard that

Yesterday when I said James may have figured out or been tipped off about all the finals talk being not about him? He may have gotten that info the old-fashioned way.. today he was eavesdropping on Nicole and Paul doing their finale loops through a crack in the sliding door.. when I saw him here, they were discussing juror votes, but immediately before that they were commenting about James being undeserving and doing nothing all season - he may have heard that too

They kept trying to nap but BB kept waking them up for Diaries (to air when?).. eventually Nicole was called in and got some cards to read to them, so she roused the others and they were given the news about Big Brother Over The Top starting next week (airing exclusively on All Access which you can get here).. they watched the current promo and put on the appropriate shockfaces, and seemed just a little put out that they were about to be yesterday's news, already

They were given a board and chalk pens to write tips for the new autumn hamsters, so they divvied up the board into three equal parts and went to work.. James included "don't be THAT guy or gal" and "don't trust the quiet or loud guy/girl" - Nicole asked him about that one; Paul included "be yourself, unless you suck" and "fuck showmances"; and Nicole included "it's Big Brother, not Big Baby" and "PLAY".. naturally Twitter ran wild with the irony of the situation and had fun with it all

Paul and Nicole talked outside about James's not-so-subtle digs to them with his tips, as well as his game (or lack of) in general, while James grouched to himself inside about the two of them them - it was a quads show for sure.. Paul and James bid farewell to the backyard, and James and Nicole went to bed early, but Paul went back out to run his speech some more.. as of now, I'd say Paul definitely plans to take Nicole to finals if it's his choice, and I think Nicole will do the same if it's hers, but she may still not be 100% decided yet

Day 96 - Sunday, September 18

The end is nigh

Nigh enough anyway.. I wasn't around for much of the day but not a lot happened.. a praying mantis showed up and volunteered to be a hamster pet, as they often do.. Paul and Nicole each practiced their speeches for the jury, should they have the opportunity to face them.. Paul's was interesting in that he said "no offense Nicole" in it although he was practicing alone, indicating he really might take her if he wins Part 3.. Nicole did slip to Paul a couple times that he might not be there at the end with her - maybe accidental, because as of yesterday she'd told us she didn't know who she'd take.. all things that will become clear in time.. James continued not writing speeches or shmoozing either of them, same as all season

James was pretty low-key, either having figured out or been tipped off that he maybe didn't have a guarantee for finals after all.. he finally made a sort of pitch to Nicole to pick him if it's her choice, and while she didn't come out and say either way, it didn't go well for James.. he asked her for a heads-up whichever she decided.. James also had a short chat with Paul about the same, with the same non-results.. all three mentioned the jury grilling they're likely to get, and Nicole and Paul agreed they'd get some tough questions but Nicole told James "I can't think of one question they'd ask you"

I'm kind of expecting at least one more evening delivery from BBAD, since James and Paul were called to pick up the sushi and cookie kits, respectively.. if there is a third on the way, it didn't arrive tonight although a small booze delivery did.. they each drank a beer and then opened the wine and toasted themselves, lapsing into chit-chat and singing, which of course brought reprimands for the latter, but it wasn't long til they moved on to loud, sippy and silly for a fun/funny night of feeds

Day 95 - Saturday, September 17

The three remainders slept the morning away again, and people complained about it again.. I'm not sure what those complainers expect when they begin a huge competition at 11pm and stay up til 5am talking it over while their built-up stress and adrenalin winds down.. BB USA has always happened overnight and always will, and Flashback is there to see the overnight action while they catch up their zzz's.. the whole season's there and strange but true, there were some juicy highlights this season.. anyway our trio's work is done, and they've got literally nothing to do now but wait

Once they were all up for the evening, they continued to herd as a trio.. they talked about cleaning the kitchen but they got the backyard back so they hung out there first.. Nicole told her mom (and us) she thinks she's probably got a better chance against James because he's done nothing, but she doesn't yet know who to take to finals should it be her decision.. James continued to irritate her, and Paul continued to pounce on that and work her - she hasn't let on to Paul how transparent those efforts are.. I haven't heard Paul tell us who he'll take, and James hasn't worked either of them beyond his usual assumption that they'll both take him.. he did say at one point he can't go to sleep because Paul and Nicole might talk and form a Final Two deal - yeah, he's behind

They eventually teamed up to get the dishes washed, old food sorted and tossed, and surfaces and floors cleaned in the kitchen and living room, before making dinner and enjoying it outside.. BB gave them Jenga, and they settled in for an evening of cards and stacking

Jenga fever didn't last long, and James and Nicole had each headed for bed, with Paul silently ruminating in the hammock, when another delivery came from @BBADOrwell and After Dark: cookie dough, icing and decoration sprinkles, and a little owl cookie cutter, this time delivered to Paul's attention.. it seemed to be slice 'n bake dough rather than cookie cutter type and they almost gave up on the cutter, but Paul said the viewers probably wanted the owls so they worked at it and made it happen.. Paul also asked why they keep getting things they have to make, and booze would be nice.. they came out of the oven as slightly owl-shaped blobs, but they decorated and ate them.. Paul had another lengthy work-session with Nicole, as James snoozed away in the other room, oblivious

How to pick a winner

It's time to haul out this old chestnut seasonal favorite and gentle reminder again.. please to enjoy

I've always maintained it doesn't matter a bit who gets the money unless you're a second cousin or better, but some Hamsterwatchers seem to care who wins, so I once again present the following for your rooting consideration.. after all, feedsters are more qualified to make a selection than bitter jurors - we don't see relevant Diary footage anymore since they don't air the meaty stuff, but we've seen far more than the jury, so they too need to use one of these methods:

Played the best game
This is the popular, politically correct method that everyone claims to use, but nobody really does.. Nicole and Paul have equal but very different claims here - James, not so much.. socially, each of them had obstacles to overcome: James and Nicole had veteran bull's eyes on their backs from the start, Paul had a disastrous early alignment with Jozea and a loud, volatile personality, and all three were in strong duos, which can be as much a hindrance as a strength.. but nearly every 'game' falls into one of the other categories, so don't feel pressured to root for anyone through some misguided urge to be PC

Lied the best/most
This one's a little squirrely as it crosses over into ethical/unethical territory, and that leads to arguments about politics and/or religion, and that leads to flame wars every time.. BB2/7 Dr Will is the exception here: he won by skirting the moral issues and flat-out lied about everything except the fact that he was lying, and he was light years more fun & charming about it than most since.. Nicole is probably the front-runner here, but most of hers were lies of omission and slippery allegiances rather than blatant untruths, but that was enough to earn her rat and snake tags from those who think BB can and/or should be played like Sesame Street (pro tip: it can't)

Needs the money most
Please! We all 'need' a half million dollars! Anyone who goes on a tv show to pay their Visa bill or because they can't scrape together the next car payment should consider credit counseling, bankruptcy, gambling, or steady employment - we're all sick of the sob stories

Generally a favorite method for feedsters, but more jury members are closet cutest-sexiest-dreamiest voters than they'll admit.. all three have their fans among viewers in this regard.. I'd say Paul might have the edge here but he grosses out and annoys just as many, so that's a wash

Smartest player
A favorite for feedsters and jury alike, it's what most really mean when they say 'best game' - basically it means 'smarter than me' - but given the fact that we're dealing with people who've spent three months pooping on tv, being humiliated for our enjoyment, and making their friends & families ashamed to claim them, most hamsters are eliminated from this category when they complete their BB application

Played like I would
The mack daddy for feedsters who haven't caught on that everyone's different and everyone does different things for different reasons.. it's the most popular judging criteria and the dumbest: they aren't you, they haven't seen everything you've seen, and until you're in there for three months of paranoia, daily slander, and Diary messing up your better judgment, you can't possibly know what you'd do in there.. get over it

Backstabbing revenge
One of the elimination categories, this one's about rooting for anyone except the player who took out your favorite (or yourself, if on the jury).. this one usually decides the winner.. in gamespeak it's also known as 'nothing personal'

Creeped me out
Another elimination category and a big one some seasons, this is rooting for anyone except the player who gives you the willies or reminds you of your ex.. more popular among feedsters than the jury, which is odd: they're the ones who lived with the creepies - we can shut 'em off.. feel free to cite this one if you need an excuse to abstain from rooting for any of them

I just like him or her
Hands-down easiest method because it requires no reasons or explanations, making it the best category to avoid involvement in flame wars.. however, you might be expected to back it up with something else in most BB chats or social media outlets

Deserves to win
This usually means you don't know or don't care and are probably just afraid of getting involved in a flame war.. back it up with something or shift over to 'I just like him or her'

Most entertaining
A personal favorite and while you might say this season it doesn't apply, the feeds have often had something to hold our interest, even if it hasn't been up to par.. our endgame trio brought us double but very different showmances plus a solid #Friendship, bizarre but fascinating and ever-changing hair arrangements, adventures in self-taught cooking and paranoia about same, a lot of pranks, and a lot of camera-talking from each.. yes, I realize all these things were often as annoying as they were entertaining, but I'm trying stay positive-ish.. Paul's got a big lead in this category with the stellar way he carried out his secret service task, not to mention wearing Pablo the pelican floaty for a week or two before that, putting his perfect yet largely undetected floater game on display under their noses

Played with integrity
This is a nice pipe dream for optimists and romantics, but not much more: in reality tv, the good tend to die young

I hate them all equally
Most feedsters end up here sooner or later

Big Brother OTT, Australian Survivor, BB Australia

The fall season will be called Big Brother Over The Top and it will premiere September 28 at 7pm PT/10pm ET.. the press release says the new hamsters will move in that same day, and promises we'll be able to "see everything play out live, including ceremonies and competitions" and that there will be viewer voting power - that might mean fluff votes or it might be something substantial

Of course it'll have 24/7 live feeds, plus a weekly one-hour episode with live evictions on Wednesdays, hosted by Julie.. it's scheduled to run 10 weeks, grand prize will be $250,000, and it'll be exclusively on All Access.. sign up now and you'll be set to watch the rest of BB18 play out plus Flashback to replay anything on the feeds all season as well as the new fall season, along with zillions of CBS shows including BB1 thru BB18.. reminder, they recently launched a new commercial-free option

Australia's premiere season of Survivor is underway, and is getting good reviews and positive comparisons to early USA seasons.. you can watch online at Australian Survivor official site.. outside Australia, use HideMyAss and connect to an Australian server

Unfortunately, Big Brother Australia is on hiatus, possibly permanently, but they used to do the hamsters-in-a-house concept better than most.. their 2013 season is my all-time favorite BB ever, and I can't recommend it highly enough.. here's the premiere to get you hooked started.. all episodes are on YouTube but from a few different uploaders.. there is a playlist but it skips a few episodes, so just YouTube search: Big Brother Australia 2013 and remember which ep you're on.. I promise you won't regret it

Paul, hearing about BB haters: A woman? A grown-ass woman? Like what do people get out of doing that?

[after another reprimand]
Paul: Live feeds still fuckin on?
James: Noooo, no damn way, them things been off

Nicole: Tornadoes used to be my biggest fear as a kid, tornadoes and sharks
Paul: You know there's a movie called Sharknado?
Nicole: Nuh uh!

James to self, after Paul/Nicole left: Gonna vote me out anyway, assholes

Paul, on their roles/images: I'm just the shit show... maybe Michelle's the shit show

Paul about pizza: I'm taking this out to the hammock
Nicole: Maybe the sofa, I don't want to have to balance it
Paul: Fuck balancing! What are we, Cirque du Soleil?

James: It's gonna be pretty crazy this season if two vets make it on the Final Two block
Nicole: Yeah, that would be
James: You know everyone's gonna think we had a Final Two deal, right? Ha ha
Nicole: Yeah, yeah they would

Nicole to mom/self/us: I don't know who to take with me if I get the chance

Paul to Nicole: We're in euphoria, not regret

Paul: Cheers to Orwell's night owls and these weird fucking nighttime snacks.. friendship

'Our buddy Denny, he did some shit with Four Lokos, but he went and bought a goat and put it in their backyard, in our - it was our baseball house. And he got fucked up one night and he got some lighter fluid and sprayed it on it, and went and tried to light that motherfucker on fire! He was so drunk. Yeah, and this goat, it was so - it was scared to death, and it was right by the fireplace like this [walks off-cam]. It was just like - it wouldn't even move. - Flashback 6/25/16 11.04pm, told with big smiles and laughter

Won: $5,500*; TV/tablet/phone; 2 Revivals; Immunity 1st 2 evictions
* includes $5k bribe from Corey

He went out early after a failed pre-feeds showmance with Natalie and the disastrous Revolution (buffoons) alliance with Jozea and Paul, but those three were hilarious together, not necessarily intentionally. He battled back like a champ and stuck longer than most revivals. They evicted him again but he battled back again the same night, and almost stuck to the end. He was a comp beast and socialized well, but his bestie Paul drove their social game. He'd have been hated some seasons for his bravado and obsession with Instagram followers, but he stood out easily with this year's slim pickings. He didn't take it too seriously, he had an infectious laugh, and his puppet routines with Baldwin the eagle were a comedy highlight, as were his impersonations.

Won: $0.25; Care Package #1: Never-not; Immunity 1st 2 evictions

She was an interesting hamster, all fluff on the surface but with more substance and smarts than she let on. She was a better sport than most about James's pranks even when they left her covered in mess, and her showmance with him was unexpected and refreshing, at least at first, before their spat/makeup cycles sped up and became repetitious and predictable. She managed her self-esteem issues well but the BB habitat has a way of magnifying things like that and allowing them to take over. She knew more about what was going on than many, she was a champ on the spinny endurance, she won the Black Box HOH, and along with Bridgette and Michelle, she was instrumental in ending Paulie's reign of terror and BB career. She was a breath of fresh air, especially early on, and she'll be missed.

Won: $0.25; Care Package #4 co-HOH; Black Box 30-second bonus; 8 days pixel suit; Outback dinner

She was equal parts volatile, boring, unpredictable at least til the end, when she slept up to 20 hours a day. She said 'superfan' way too often but her BB knowledge was often faulty. Her feuds with Bridgette and Nicole were childish and tiresome, as were her self-esteem issues and crying, but she embraced Paul's #VomitCrybaby tag after the spinny endurance. She had some great moments like Drunken Big Meech, winning OTEV against Frank, and making pew-pew explosion sounds behind Paulie when she 'blew up his game'. Some of her nasty online posts preceded her, and her sisters' Twitters were a show of their own. She earned a #Deathrace2016 honorable mention when she put her stunt hair through the wash. She's the 22nd USA/Canada first-in to not win.

Won: $1,000*; TV/tablet/phone*; Make apple pies (6); 8 days pixel suit; Outback dinner
*Per feeds/not shown on CBS

He gave Cody & Derrick more airtime than they had on BB16, and had the most raging case of HOHitis we've seen in ages, never mind most of them just let him think he was driving so they didn't have to. His smugness was out of control, he was obsessed with saying Tiffany was Vanessa and had issues with Bridgette being a feminist, and he self-directed a World's Worst Haircut to launch his mini-me Paul era. He cuddled and more with Zakiyah while plotting against her, berated her when she asked what's up, and bragged that he 'boned' her all over the habitat. He peed in the hot tub, refused to make pie, cussed non-stop, cried when he lost, and he picked up Julie a foot off the ground. Good riddance 'type thing'.

Won: 8 days pixel suit; Outback dinner

She was super perky and upbeat, with a dark side that was fun and fascinating. She was in a pixel bikini when feeds began, and she formed a solid friendship/alliance with Bronte and Natalie. She baked cookies nonstop and gathered intel for the Spygirls as everyone overlooked her and gametalked around her in the kitchen. Michelle hated her over a misunderstood eyebrows comment, and then Bridgette became everyone's target when she buddied up with Frank and won an HOH and veto the same week. But she survived two evictions after his, and openly confronted Michelle about their drama, eventually winning her over. She embraced Tiffany's Cabbage Patch tag, and she'll be missed.

Won: Outback dinner (guest)

Stunningly gorgeous plus photogenic, she came in as a fan since BB3 but said she was up for a showmance. She focused on the latter when she took a shine to Paulie, and that progressed from awkward overlong hugs to bumping in bumpercars. He gave her several verbal beatdowns but she kept going back for more, even as he plotted her demise with his boys. She also took a shine to a stuffed giraffe and gave it a birthday party, and she formed a couple friendships that might last beyond BB, notably with Da'Vonne and Michelle. Game-wise she didn't do much and she went eight consecutive shows with no Diaries. She had a Murphree-esque mirror routine but she avoided #Deathrace2016 - best stunt hair to date.

Won: Outback dinner (guest)

She lasted longer than last time, but not as long as she hoped. Like Frank and Nicole, she started gaming too hard and turning on her fellow vets, when the four of them could have steamrolled the eejit noobs and gone all the way. Da'Vonne played better than some, planting little poison seedbombs against others that took root and grew, but they came back to bite her. She gave us good Diaries again, creative turns of phrase, hair flips, deadly if-looks-could-kill glares, reaction faces deluxe, and occasional belly laughs. Now and then she dropped her game face and gave us a funny, relaxed one instead, and it was always good to see.

Won: 8 days pixel suit; Outback dinner

He made a rookie mistake by playing too hard and fast, way too early, when he should have laid low and enjoyed the safety that was handed to him. But he played for his life last time, and he was mentored by the sidekick rather than the master. His social game was the best of the bunch till he got in trouble for slapping asses and being mouthy, but he's not a bad guy overall and his exit was a fatal hit for the feeds. Pixels were his third costume, a hamster record (until Nicole tied it). His friendship with Bridgette was fun to watch, with funky movie retells and baking, and every random topic under the sun.

Won: $2,500

She came in looking and sounding so much like Vanessa it was spooky, but it didn't take long to realize her game was more Audrey-style chaos and sabotage than poker-faced strategy. Paulie's the only one who didn't get that memo but that's Paulie for you. Two weeks in a row she didn't campaign to save herself nearly as much as others campaigned for her, but when she transformed into Free Agent IDGAF Tiffany it was a joy to behold. I'm surprised #They let one of the six stuntcasts go before jury, but it just goes to show the whole thing isn't as rigged as some believe.

Won: Immunity 1st 2 evictions

She went in saying she'd use behavioral sciences to maneuver her way to the win but she spent most of her time with Bridgette and Natalie who were barely playing BB. Her huge confession to them about being the 'secret nerd' and aspiring mathematician was just silly, and she'll always be remembered for not knowing what 9x9 is. She didn't bring much to the table beyond her abnormally high voice and hair bows, and even the hair bows didn't stick around. She seems like a pleasant enough person but like so many others, she should have gone on a dating show instead.

Won: Nothing

One of the most delusional hamsters ever (and that's saying something), he was convinced he owned the house, he was the messiah of the newbies, the savior, the sanctuary, and the next Mario Lopez. He wore his doggie comp suit for days, but mostly he just wore underpants. His gametalks with Paul and Victor were pure comedy since they had no clue whatsoever how far out of every loop they were, and The Jozea and Paul Talk Show concluded with the two of them roaming the house looking for a camera that worked. Jozea's shtick got old fast for many, but he was feeds gold for trainwreck fans like myself.

Won: $2,500

I didn't like having to combine an intro with an obit, but that's how the dog biscuit crumbles. He seemed like a fun guy with potential for fun feeds, especially his admission that he'd be 'willing to flirt if necessary' but he also might have gotten into heated political discussions, and BB is not the place for that. He didn't technically get Jodi'd since he got to compete twice, but gone before feeds is never good, and neither is trial by combat. Too bad the token older/regular person/fan got the first boot but young, pretty, hormonal hamsters are all the rage anymore.

Big Brother 18 FAQ
Day 1 Move-in was June 15
Day 8 CBS premiere was June 22
Day 9 Feeds began June 23
Day 99 Finale is September 21

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and Flashback remains accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP and airs Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight to 3am, Tuesday 11pm to 3am, Thursday 1am to 3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

HOH's team members had immunity from nomination all week. Unlike HOH, the Roadkill winner could nominate someone from his/her team.

HOH named the renom if veto was used on one of his/her nominees. If the Roadkill nominee came off, Roadkill winner named the renom.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) plays BB air shows and other CBS shows, as well as feeds, or you can use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

BB18 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Siblings might and veterans definitely get more.

The habitat has 87 HD cameras (up seven) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman. He and Julie Chen are the only staffers who have been there since Big Brother 1.
