Day 93 - Friday 9/18

"That's it, we're done"

The afternoon and evening were extremely quiet, with a lot of napping, laying around, and nervousing by Steve and Liz.. Vanessa was seen by a doctor about her neck, and muscle relaxers came along afterward.. the three chatted off and on, including a very peculiar tangent about Nazi concentration camps from Vanessa.. she also questioned Liz some more about Austin, as if she's trying to put a wedge in there, which is odd since Vanessa's the one who pushed that showmance in the first place, and conveniently neglected to tell Austin when Liz wasn't that into him at first

Feeds were down three hours for their comp, through After Dark, which did a rerun and some pre-show interviews.. when they came back, Vanessa told Steve "that's it, we're done," meaning done with the comps, after he won Part 2 of the final HOH and Liz had gone to shower

Steve was smiling and giddy, and surprised at himself, saying he can't believe he'd gotten this far and he hadn't believed Vanessa when she'd told him he could.. she said she was out of it from the muscle relaxers and she didn't seem exactly thrilled for him, but she said she knew he could do it.. she also told him he doesn't even have to win Part 3, but he told her he's not throwing it

They comped at night so it might be another cool looking one.. it was an elaborate puzzle that involved climbing, but with counterweights so it wasn't brute force climbing, and they had to decipher clues and assemble answer letters in what sounds like a crossword format.. Steve and Liz each had 90 minutes but Steve finished in 28 minutes and change, with Liz just behind him at 31:11.. clues ranged from specific, including third eliminated in Busted Moves comp, evicted by 8-0 vote, and second HOH dethroned, to vague such as "male houseguest" and there was only one correct solution

Steve suggested to Vanessa they tell Liz they've been working together all season and she'll be going out in third place, but Vanessa said they should delay that particular talk "the later the better".. later Steve muttered to himself "she might be on to me" about Vanessa.. we might end up with a blindside one way or the other on Wednesday night, no matter which of them wins Part 3

Vanessa went to bed early and Steve puttered around, like he does.. Liz had a breakdown after her Diary while making food, saying she was sorry to her mom and Julia for letting them down, and she apologized to us for crying.. she didn't need to: she's done well this season, as have all three of them, and I think she's got a very, very good chance at that second place $50k - she just doesn't know it yet

Day 92 - Thursday 9/17

Rolling along

The sore and exhausted trio were woken up early to do their guided memories fakery over champagne breakfast for Sunday's show.. afterwards, they took to their beds, deservedly, and feedmasters gave us a long series of random decor shots around the habitat along with an editorial comment or two, perhaps

An interesting bit of trivia: the two hinky votes at Jeff's eviction that have been blamed all season on Audrey and/or a non-existent America's Player were made by Liz and Steve, when Vanessa was Head of Household.. that those three are our survivors at the end seems like some staggering odds.. I'd love to see that vote addressed on the finale, but they didn't make a big deal of it on the show so I'm not hopeful

They spent the rest of the day in and out of their beds, mostly in, but they got up and dressed up (kind of) for a viewer Q&A session for After Dark.. that started a minute or two after 8pm and wasn't much, just some fluff questions about foods and activities they miss, for 15 minutes or so

Liz and Vanessa hauled their sore bodies back to bed again after that, while Steve puttered around and made an elaborate study system for the Part 2 comp with candy and cereal.. Liz came back out to study as well, and Vanessa did a drive-by at one point, saying Steve took her idea (actually Vanessa got the candy diagram from Steve, but who's counting)

Day 91 - Wednesday 9/16

So long Johnny, again

Vanessa evicted Johnny, and he walked the plank to Julie's boudoir for a second time, to an equally good response from the crowd as last time.. the Final Three later said they'd heard the audience go "awww" when Vanessa evicted him, and they figured he really must be a twist, again/still.. Rachel and Brendon showed up to announce baby news, and feeds came back to Liz, Steve, Vanessa toasting champagne

The Part 1 endurance comp was announced on the feeds crawl as starting at 6pm, and 7pm, and then the time was removed completely.. the delay could be about equipment safety issues and/or rare SoCal rain.. we'll get there

Night circus

The comp started around 8.42pm and it was similar to the BB14 fishhooks.. they were sitting on little wooden discs on ropes with ball buoys below them, and they travelled across a nightmare circus arena to be slammed into a padded wall on one end, and dunked into some sort of red goo on the other.. it was supposed to be candy apples being dipped but it had a very "bathing in blood" effect.. along the way they were periodically pelted with powder bombs, confetti, paint splats, and the ever-present BB guano

It was a perfect combo of torture plus the potential to run long, and it did.. they were quiet for most of it after their initial burst of chatter, but they held in there really well.. Vanessa started telling stories at one point (to distract and get someone to fall, in my opinion)

A little after midnight, they had them shift down and sit on the balls, but the little disc seats were still there at neck level.. Steve came off at 12.18am, more than 3.5 hours in, and Vanessa started to amp it up.. she told Liz she could go another 10 hours, but that she (Vanessa) had no chance to win Part 2 anyway so Liz should just fall before she got too wrecked to do Part 2.. and so she did around 12.31am, just shy of the four hour mark, and Vanessa won Part 1

So now Steve and Liz will compete in Part 2 on Friday or Saturday.. it's usually a difficult veto type comp, combining physical and mental.. the winner of that will go against Vanessa in a Q&A live on the finale, and the winner of that will decide who will sit with the jury.. but first we have a week of Vanessa reinforcing her separate promises to Steve and Liz, and assuring each of them her Word is good no matter what she tells the other one.. it has already begun

Day 90 - Tuesday 9/15

Shoeless Judas

The taped show caught up the TV-onlies with the balance beam veto Johnny won, Austin going up in his place, and the various resulting Vanessa talks, and the "Life in Pieces" extended sitcom commercial (which Austin goofed on in his nominee speech, like he does).. then Liz and Johnny split the votes and gave us our first tiebreaker of the season.. Vanessa evicted Austin in a blindside that wasn't pretty

Austin was clearly stunned and mouthed off at Vanessa, kissed Liz good-bye, and walked the plank and sat down with Julie with no shoes.. he could have begun to repair a bit of his disastrous reputation if he'd gone out classy, but no.. Liz cried and of course Vanessa cried too, ever playing the victim

The Final Four HOH comp wasn't the usual Before or After on the big three-way round platform, but instead it was a true/false based on missing words from various season quotes, to the tune of The Dating Game theme.. the bleeps were placed to make all the quotes sound a little racy and Julie even got a "camping" private joke in there for feedsters

It came down to a tiebreaker between Johnny and Steve where they had to say how many seconds the Under the Rainbow egg comp took "without going over".. Steve won even though he said later he'd left off a zero by mistake.. also, they launched the poll for the viewer favorite $25k

Feeds came back right on time at 9pm, which was nice.. Steve nominated Johnny and Vanessa, and Vanessa won the veto.. their comp was a karate theme, hosted by Caleb, about putting season events in order plus running back and forth, so Wednesday night Vanessa will cast the sole vote to evict Johnny or Liz.. they got the tiny table for four, and played a bit of half-hearted Sling Band.. Steve had a breakdown later, on his own, crying and saying to himself/us that he lost the game today because Vanessa got him to throw the veto.. he was very regretful and obviously couldn't confide in any of them but he went downstairs, Liz cheered him up a bit, and he ended up sleeping down there

Day 89 - Monday 9/14

Tie-dye time

They got the end of season tie-dye supplies - shirts, gloves, and lots of color bottles.. in the past, they've boozed them up and had them do their crafting for After Dark, pretending it was the usual evening time block, but when they've done that in the past, it's been on feeds too.. today the feeds cut to Jeffish loops at 9am and that was that until after the taped eviction show airs Tuesday night

See below re spoilers: I'll post them if I get them from a reliable source.. the rest of our time here will likely play out as follows:

Monday - Eviction show taping 5-6pm BB time including Final Four HOH comp
Tuesday - Final noms and veto comp played; taped eviction show airs 8-9pm Eastern (5-6pm BB time); feeds return 9pm BB time

Ratings - Final Four Three edition

Ratings are based on entertainment value, but automatic ups for all three for great comp performance
VTE = Voted to evict

It's a mixed bag recently, entertainment-wise. The eviction shows have been good, but that's due to this year's hamsters remaining unpredictable rather than design by The Powers That Be. Wednesday's Part 1 endurance was the type we've been craving and even though we've seen the same setup before, they made it fresh with stellar and creepy graphics, plus particularly good dipping goo. Overall, they're pretty much just phoning it in anymore but they won the timeslot for most shows again this season, so why would they bother to do anything different? The feedster votes were beyond a joke this year, as is the still-growing goofs tally. They've awarded a big $10k in miscellaneous prizes this year as opposed to $125k last year, including $105k to the Team America guys. That's a pretty drastic difference for a nearly copycat season in most other ways.

Won: Ariana field trip; ½ week Wackstreet, Outback dinner
#1 VTE Steve
#2 No vote (nominee)
She wasn't usually as fun/funny as Julia, and laying around sucking face with Austin all the time didn't help. It was disheartening but I guess not surprising how quickly she fell for Vanessa's 'throw it to me' ploys on the endurance, even knowing how tired and sore she was at that point. She knows Vanessa has messed her up in the past but so has Steve, and he was more direct about it, so I don't think there's much chance of Liz and Steve talking things over while Vanessa's busy in Diary this week. Vanessa's already done it with each of them and will continue to, so just write her the check already and we can all go home.

Won: nothing yet
#1 No vote (nominee)
#2 No vote (HOH)
WON PART 2
I wish he'd put a little more effort in the season he's on than putting so much focus on prior seasons, but being a BB encyclopedia has worked out better for him than it did for Jason or Canada's Jordan. Entertainment-wise, I think we've seen all the loops he's going to run on feeds, a few times, but I'd like to see him approach Liz with some kind of Rock Solid Deal so Vanessa's walking all over them wouldn't be quite so easy for her. But again, we've seen Steve at work, and that hasn't been his style thus far.

Won: Ariana field trip (guest); Outback dinner; 24 hours polishing Jackie
#1 VTE Austin (tiebreaker)
#2 Won/used veto on self
#2 VTE Johnny
WON PART 1
I don't deny that she's done most of the driving this season and will likely get the win, deservedly, but my criteria is entertainment value and hers is lacking. It's comical at times how easily she gets her way, and impressive how she's lured them back in when they've strayed, but her methods to do so can be exhausting. Between talking herself up, putting them down, and banging into their heads how her Word is Good (when it clearly isn't), she's textbook proof of how effective it is to 'tell 'em often enough and they'll believe it.' If she'd acknowledge what she does or if she did any of it with a sense of humor, it'd be a whole different story. Hamsters often get a 'life or death' attitude on this show, but it's usually the losers who get there, not the winners.

Won: Revival; 1 week Wackstreet
#1 VTE Austin
#2 EVICTED 1-0
On a show that often has cookie-cutter personalities, he's truly unique. Between his random shouty interviews, dentistry, and superb guitar & bass playing, I had no idea what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved his dry humor and his exuberant Diaries, and he did well saving himself as long as he did because he was most everyone's easy target most weeks, mostly because they didn't know what to make of him. He kept his BB knowledge secret and slept too much when he should have been out gaming, but he was a pleasure to watch when he was awake. I think we'll never again see someone sit down to vote and greet Julie with 'What do you want?!' Classic.

Won: Outback dinner (guest)
#1 EVICTED 2-1
He came in educated & articulate, with BB savvy, and training & experience in playing characters. That was all aces on paper, but he disappointed with weird moves like aligning with Jace, and then he fell hard for Liz after saying he knew showmances take hamsters' heads out of the game. He blew up his game when Operation Jason backfired spectacularly, but he salvaged certain game death by pleading with Vanessa and it worked, and I realized his social game was in far better shape than it appeared. His Judas character failed repeatedly and he alienated most viewers on a daily basis, but I don't think he deserved as bad as he got. But the beardytail has to go.

Won: ½ week Wackstreet
She did the twin switching pretty well, considering they aren't as identical as their DNA. Some called them mean girls but I loved the candid banter between them, as well as Julia's funny interactions with Steve and James in particular. I couldn't get enough of her 'shrrrrt' and 'for surrrre' gags, despite how silly and repetitive they were. Julia's facial expressions were priceless, especially her frequent shockface, and she was the best target for James to scare since she never failed to scream and she usually fell over. She wasn't crazy about her sister's showmance, and while Liz might face a firestorm when she gets out, Julia should be just fine.

Won: Outback dinner
He had the first overlong HOH and his easy personality plus everyone gaming their brains out set him up in a friendly spot with everyone. He was hated by many when he buddied up with Jeff, but James kept it humorous even then. After that, James amped up his pranks, scaring, and candy pelting. He hung out with the less lucky Goblins and they were usually fun to watch, but they spent too much time having fun while the others gamed around them. He'll be remembered for his tinfoil headphones and Swiffer, his quick and unique wit, many Jamesisms and Lines of the Day, making Liz's kitty hat his own, and his devotion to his little girl Baleigh.

Won: Gronk party cruise
She's one of the best laugh-at-herselfers we've ever had, and while she got emotional losing comps and losing her friends, she was mostly upbeat the rest of the time. She was a very good sport about James and Jeff's sexual jokes, as well as with the rest of them poking about her inability to win comps. But she won a cruise in a season without many prizes (thus far), and I think it's safe to say she'll remain friends with all or most of them. She turned laying around into an art form, inspiring me to start a #LeaningMeg hashtag game that became entirely too easy, and her enthusiasm for their non-game games made them fun, as did her cereal scorekeeping system.

Won: $10,000; Never Not pass; Outback dinner (guest)
She came in with that incredible train/tram story and a good attitude about it, and she called herself 'Basic Becky' which fit well when she talked about recipes, dogs, and her daily tasks and procedures at work. But she proved to be a comp beast and she lived up to her billing as Black Friday Boss when she openly targeted Vanessa. Unfortunately for her, everyone turned tail on that plan and Becky was demoted to the after-Christmas returns desk. She should have gone on a dating show but she gave us some fun with Becky Updates - even Olive Garden got in on that. She can laugh at herself and those ones are always appreciated.

Won: 1 week 6 days knight; 24 hours polishing by Vanessa
She came in as a stuntcast cross-promo opp with Jeff and she was easily the better of that duo, even if she was barely seen for weeks. She had a better grasp of this show and game than he did, and she talked some big talk but didn't get a chance for us to see if she'd put it in action or not. She did her costume week with a good attitude, and she was a good-natured participant in most of their non-game activities. She gave us some behind-the-scenes 'Amazing Race' info which was fun and different. Like Victoria last year, she doesn't need all that fake hair but at least hers stayed in pretty good shape most of the time.

Won: 2,400 battles
She's the type who had Star of the Season potential but she didn't quite make the cut. She was volatile, emotional, controlling, and prone to hissy fits, and she took most things personally. But she was also an unexpected comp beast, especially on the endurance wall, and she wasn't afraid to make 'big moves' even if Vanessa had a heavy hand in most of them. She did her 2,400 battles largely (and surprisingly) without complaint, and she gained some hard-earned respect with that. Her thing with Clay was odd and uncomfortable to watch, and she easily won Death Race 2015 with her curious and unflattering taped-in extensions.

Won: Ireland trip; Outback dinner (guest)
He started badly, calling himself a 'superfan' after being recruited at a basketball game and marathoning a few seasons. He said BB is about making new friends and memories, and he had a problem with lies and backstabs except when he was doing it. He spent most of his time stapled to Shelli and they got a lot of mother/son jokes, but I saw them more as creepy Lannisters, especially when she went on about how like her brother he is. He provided loads of unintentional comedy, weird mouth things and mumbling translations, he peed in HOH shower, and he got out just in time.

Won: 1 week Wackstreet
Another superfan who found out it's easier to play BB from home, he fell into Vanessa's disastrous Renom Roulette wheel and went out earlier than many hoped. He got mouthy about many of them and popped some good funnies, but he laid around most of the time until it was too late. He gave us some of the best reaction faces of all time, especially the night they played squicky truth or dare - he even had a dedicated cam for much of it. He mentioned this site often, usually saying it's 'hard to navigate' so he'll probably never see this.

Won: Nothing
She was erratic and unpredictable, and the random ways she kept them stirred up made for some of the best feeds in ages. And as a bonus, she featured in all the fights, many because the others didn't believe her telling truths. They did buy most of the fibs, and without 'empirical evidence,' but they fell for her wacky gameplay more than twice. She marooned herself in a bed and a dental chair, with some laughs in between, and she got the 2nd ever penalty vote. I enjoyed watching her, and will miss her.

Won: Nothing
I haven't given many empty wheels before their time, and I don't think any of those got them as early as he did. But we've never had such a misogynistic, inappropriate, and unfunny pig before. CBS let him get away clean and that's what it is - I'm just glad to see the back of him.

Won: Power to nullify 3 votes
She wasn't afraid to confront people nor to keep fighting to stay, which was good for us, but didn't help her much. She figured out the twins early but didn't leverage that to her advantage soon or well enough. Her 'game on' fight with Audrey and pantry rant to us were memorable, especially her catch-phrase 'get your life!' She was smart, funny, and volatile. She didn't let us take full advantage of #DaVonneHasADaughter, a hashtag that was too good to be true.

Won: Nothing
He was like a parody of all the former surf boys we've had, with all the worst qualities of asshat hamsters past rolled into one. He verbally beat up on Steve a few times but the primetime version earned him viewer loathing, even if his actoring was lousy. He ranted, streaked, flipped us off, and mostly talked about himself, but he promised to save us all someday through music.

They erroneously said last year that BB16 would have 'the most houseguests ever' but this year they really did, with 17 total after the twins split into separate entities. Now my symmetry for this section is out of whack and I don't know what to put here.

Big Brother 17 FAQ
June 18 was Day 1 move-in. June 24 was CBS premiere, Day 7. Finale will be September 23, Day 98

Feeds are streamed by CBS, and accessible via All Access subscription. Call 888-274-5343 for account help, including cancellation.

CBS shows are Sundays 8pm, Wednesdays 8pm, eviction Thursdays 9pm (Global in Canada).

Big Brother After Dark is on POP (formerly TVGN). It airs Monday, Tuesday 11pm-2am; Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday midnight-2am; Thursday 1am-3am. The aired blocks are recorded earlier on the same night.

The CBS app (by CBS Interactive) will play BB air shows and other CBS shows, but not feeds. Use your browser to watch feeds on mobile devices. The same All Access link used to subscribe will lead to the feeds viewing page if you're already signed up.

Liz and Julia had to survive five evictions in order to play separately as individuals, which they did, with Julia officially entering the game on Day 43. They switched places every few days. They had a limited time in Diary to change clothes, adjust their appearance, and exchange info. The non-playing twin was sequestered in a 'house,' possibly the jury house.

BB17 prizes are the same: $500k for the winner and $50k for 2nd place. Stipend for the others is $1,000 per week again, including pre-show hotel and jury sequester. Recruits or those with established pre-season fan bases might get more.

The habitat has 80 HD cameras (up four) and over 100 microphones.

The recorded in-house announcements are the voice of producer Don Wollman.
