In Dingo's 'Line of the Day' sidebar on Day 43, April is quoted as saying: "That's all they kept telling me in the DR: 'Why do you think you have that money? Why do you think it's in separate bars?'"
So, I'm confused. Why is Diary asking her that? She does have the money and it is in separate bars, right?
I've tried finding a video of that competition to see if I missed some kind of rules regarding the money, but I couldn't find one. There are way too may videos on youtube when searching for Big Brother 10. I thought I remembered hearing something about how the bars are to be 'cashed in'. But I'm not for-sure.

she made it sound as if Diary was urging her to buy votes, and she wasn't interested.. said she'd rather keep her $5k
I only posted that as it was a very interesting reveal about Diary and how they try to influence the game - and this one didn't get fishie'd :D

In a way she did use some of them, buying off Jerry so he would take the veto from Jesse (and promise not to use it) and giving Libra a little so she would not take her prize from her. IMHO it was pretty stoopid that she gave them any money - (we all knew Libra wanted to take the trip away from Manchelle), though Jerry was pretty smart to blackmail her about using/not using the veto.
I can't blame April for wanting to keep the money ~ I probably would have as well if I knew paying someone off would do no good at all. At least she is walking out with some money and clothes, opposed to nothing.
IF TPTB really wanted the gold bars to be a part of the game, they should have had other stipulations on how they had to be used. How about not saying how much they are worth? Or that maybe they are not worth money, but a prize? Or each bar is worth a combination of both, but you have no idea what it will be until the person in possession of each bar cashes them in upon eviction? If you are final 2 the prize doubles? If there was some mystery surrounding the bars, someone may have found it more enticing to bargain with the bars. Greed is always a good motivator. Let's face it - with this group $ 5000 is not worth turning the game upside down for....but the mystery of "what could it be?" "can it be big?" "is it worth it??" - inserting the "risk/reward" factor (which we have heard a few times already this season alone) in the mix. This would have made it very interesting......but I guess we may be expecting too much, unfortunately.
They way they structured this "twist" - how could you expect there to be a different conclusion???? April is many things, but did TPTB really think she would be stoopid enough to hand over $ 5000 while walking out the door?

I agree - the prize wasn't big enough to make an impact on the game

Yet another well thought out twist. This could have been a great twist, if they'd treated it differently. They should have called it "Big Brother money" and indicated that it could only be used in the house. Or indicated that it's dollar value could change at the end of the game, and it would be turned in during the finale. Or something.

During Tuesday's POV show, after the POV comp, in the greenlight April and Ollie were talking about how they could get Dan to use the POV on her. They flashed back to the comp when April actually won the gold bars. (B/W picture below - with a priceless expression on April's face)
Here, they showed her holding up an actual "gold bar" with a $1,000 marking - as if to remind us what they were and how they were to be used. (As well, in the DR, April talked about how she had them and could use them.)
Now, in the episode where she actually won the gold bars, all they showed was a certificate with $10,000 printed on it, not the actual gold bar. (See color picture below.) And they did a poor job at the time of explaining how it could be used.
To me, bringing up the whole gold bar thing just reinforces the thought that TPTB were trying to persuade her to use the gold bars on Dan to keep her in the game (and likely keep interest in the show - both on live feeds/After Dark and the manufactured drama on the CBS show). Everyone should agree that the house is going to be more volatile (and racy) with April in it - though I'd love to see Jury feeds of her spending the week with Libra!

They really did screw up that twist. Why don't they have a contest for BB fans where the winners get to think up the twists? We'd certainly do a better job of it!

It would be nice if we had more control. That may actually heighten the ratings.

I would like to see a twist where they don't reveal the numbers in the voting results. Just say, "April, by a majority vote, you are evicted".
Then it would be harder to pin down who voted for whom.
